Orthodontists & your dentist
Every orthodontist is a dentist, but not every dentist is an orthodontist. Here's what that difference means for your smile — and how we work alongside your regular dentist.

What's the difference?
An orthodontist starts out as a qualified dentist, then completes several more years of full-time, university-based study to specialise — focused entirely on the movement of teeth, the bite, and how the jaws fit together.
That means orthodontics isn't a sideline for us; it's all we do, every day. A specialist also looks at the bigger picture — your bite and facial balance — not just how the teeth look.
Working alongside your dentist
Seeing an orthodontist doesn't replace your dentist — the two work hand in hand. Your dentist looks after your general oral health with regular check-ups, cleans and fillings, while we focus on straightening your teeth and correcting your bite.
We're always happy to keep your dentist in the loop, and we'll encourage you to keep up your routine dental visits throughout your treatment.
